Upcounty Web Sites is a woman-owned business run from beautiful rural Montgomery County, Maryland, just a stone’s throw from Washington, DC and Baltimore. We bring both long years of experience on the Internet and an exceptional educational background to this business. Our affiliation with a wide array of associates, including top end designers (both print and web), flash developers, programmers, usability experts, and search engine optimization experts allows us to provide you with both sage advice and top notch web services.

About the Principal

Anne Shroeder is an Internet professional with over 20 years’ experience in the computer industry. She consults with a wide variety of non profit organizations and small businesses on web site optimization, back end site development, site architecture improvement, and end-to-end site development. She has taught professional web development at Montgomery College and EEI Communications.

Anne has founded two non-profit organizations to benefit animals (MetroPets and  Star Gazing Farm, an animal sanctuary), and has extensive experience working with other non-profit organizations as well as small for-profit businesses and agricultural enterprises.

Anne has worked as a full time webmaster for non profit organizations, including Conservation International and the Internet Society, and has developed web sites for a wide variety of organizations, businesses and governmental agencies. Before happily falling into the clutches of the web in 1996, she worked as both a mainframe and PC programmer (COBOL, DB2, Clipper, and FoxPro).

Originally trained as a linguist, she knows Spanish, French, German, Italian, Arabic, and Portuguese, and has developed web sites in Spanish, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Chinese, Farsi, Russian, and Haitian Kreyol.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree (magna cum laude) from Yale University in Arabic and a Master’s degree from University of Michigan in Arabic, and Linguistics. She has also studied at the Alliance Française of Paris, the University of Bonn, Germany, and the American University in Cairo, Egypt.

She is a member of International Webmaster’s Association/HTML Writers Guild and DC Web Women.
